Learning Opportunities

In collaboration with the Janesville School District, YWCA Rock County is a community partner providing early learning opportunities for children who are four years old on or before September 1st. The program operates Monday through Friday from 8am-11am. We also offer an afternoon session from 12pm-3pm.

What is the pre-school/P4J program?

YWCA offers sessions for four-year-olds enrolled in the Janesville School District’s free P4J program. We also offer wrap around childcare and a pre-school program for children ages 3-5 for a fee, who may not be enrolled in P4J classes.

It is the pre-school version of the YWCA's popular Before and After School Child Care, which offers on-site child care for school-age children. The pre-school/P4J Program is held at the YWCA Discovery Center, 1735 S. Washington St., Janesville.

What activities are available?

Children choose from daily optional activities, including:

  • active and quiet periods

  • indoor and outdoor play

  • arts and crafts

  • social-emotional skills

  • literacy and reading

  • dramatic play

  • science experiences

What hours are available?

We offer P4J sessions from 8 - 11 AM and 12- 3 PM Monday through Friday when school is in session. Wrap around preschool care is available 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM. You may choose the days and times you need and a weekly rate is charged.

Who staffs the program?

YWCA child care staff meet state requirements for certified child care providers. A DPI certified teacher teaches the P4J portion of the day (8:00-11 am & 12:00-3:00 pm).

The program is licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services. All staff receive in-service training, and throughout the year have opportunities to attend child care conferences. State licensing requires that the staff to child ratio be 1 to 10.

What about when school is closed?

Our P4J program follows the School District of Janesville's calendar; when they don't have school, class isn't held.

What about lunch?

Children bring their own nutritious sack lunch to the program and can bring in items that need to be warmed up in a microwave. A nutritious snack is served in the morning and afternoon.

Fees

P4J with Wrap Around Care-opens 9/3/24 (Must be 4 by September 1st 2024- enroll with the Janesville School District)

$250/week for 30-40 hours of care and $200/week for under 30 hours of care

Schedules and payments are submitted on Thursdays for the following week. A child must be using the program weekly. For parents choosing to have their child enrolled in the P4J program, the child must attend all days the program is offered.

A fee is not charged during the P4J classes.

Financial assistance is available to families whose household size and income level meet the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction guidelines or others who are experiencing temporary financial hardships. Child care assistance also accepted through the WI Shares program.

Wrap-Around Care

For families who need care outside of the P4J academic hours laid out above, wrap-around care is also available (please call for availability). this services is available from 7am-5:30pm at our Community Center located at 1735 S. Washington Street, Janesville.
